Pupils at Stedelijk Gymnasium Schiedam are being prepared for a future with robots. A Nao robot-tutor – programmed by TU Delft Robotics Institute associate Koen Hindriks – visited the third-graders at the school in order to teach them about robots. As part of the lesson, pupils got to program the Nao.

“The pupils live in RoboValley and should at the very least possess some basic knowledge about robots.”

The field of robotics is constantly evolving. It is important to involve kids with robots at a young age, since they have to work with them in the future. “The pupils live in RoboValley and should at the very least possess some basic knowledge about robots.” says physics teacher Jean-Pierre Nelk of Stedelijk Gymnasium Schiedam. “And what better way than to have a robot teach them?”

As a follow-up to this lesson, the pupils will have to build their own robots – which will start roaming around the school on 21 June.
